Black Cat Event Summary
The Black Cat 10-20 miler was created in 2010 in Salem, MA by B&S EVENT MANAGEMENT. The Black Cat road race was at first designed with intent to provide a training race that would attract marathon runners especially those training for the Boston Marathon. Being 20min North of Boston, there was no longer distance race in close proximity to the Boston area, so there the Black Cat Sprung. For many non-marathon runners, the 10mile option provided a much needed winter goal to dust off the sneakers and start the spring race season with a bang!
With blazing temperatures for the first weekend in March in 2010, the event surpassed 700 runners in its first year and as of February 2012 over the 800 mark.
The 20 mile course is a two loop run with a few rolling hills, some good down hills and gorgeous scenic views. The event starts and finishes in the heart of downtown Salem on Derby St. at the Salem Waterfront Hotel & Suites. Runners will follow Lafayette St. continuing on 114 into Marblehead and turn around at the entrance to Devereux Beach. Head back into Salem all the way down Fort Avenue and looping back into downtown Salem finishing on Hawthorne Blvd.
Participants will receive a long sleeve custom tech shirt.
*Allie Runners - Any runner who makes a donation of $15 or greater will receive a special gift.
*Race Pint glasses will be sold for $5.

What people are saying about the Black Cat?
I just wanted to say thank you for a great race. It was a pleasure to run the Black Cat 20! I thought the Black Cat course was perfect, the Marblehead hill was not that bad and I even set a PR. I never thought I would run better at age 38 vs age 28...must be the luck of the Black Cat! I thought the race was very well organized and I have to say the UNH students were awesome. They were all so energetic and encouraging. Running 20 miles in the cold is not the easiest of tasks but I'm sure standing in the cold can be just as harsh (well....almost). Regardless, they stayed upbeat and positive the entire time and that was very much appreciated. The Black Cat was a great experience for me and I hope to be able to run it again in the future. Thank you to the organizers for all your hard work! - SL 2013
Excellent race - cant believe this is only your second year. Whole registration and event experience was very well done. I'll be back next year!
Very glad you had a white drawstring bag in the swag. I needed a place to stash my jacket/sweats before the start and that was perfect.
Excellent recovery food options. Loved the fresh bagels and powerbars were a plus.
Fantastic job by the volunteers, and great to see so many out in the course. - RH 2012
